MANHATTAN — Three Forks’ tennis moved up the start of its season by a day to take advantage of better weather conditions and then had a successful outing Friday at Manhattan High School.
The Wolves won 11 of their 16 matches — singles and doubles — during a quad that included Granite, Jefferson and Lone Peak.
“It was a great season opener, everyone got two or three matches in and played really strong tennis,” Three Forks head coach Janna Lauver said. “With these early competitions we focus on playing with our opponents and learning their strength and weaknesses. We see these teams many times throughout the season and it's really exciting to see how they grow as players.”
In singles action, senior Sophie Meskimen and junior Malia Eriksson each won a pair of matches, while senior Ali Kotter was 2-1. Senior Sarah Christman was 1-1, while sophomores Amanda Wilcox and Tommi Kirwan each won a match.
Matches were a Pro Set 8 with ads and Meskimen dominated her opponents with an 8-o victory against Jefferson’s Clara Yap and an 8-1 win against Lone Peak’s Poppy Tole. Eriksson was equally as dominant with 8-0 and 8-3 wins against Jefferson’s Addie Coates and Granite’s Averee Rich, respectively.
Meskimen also teamed up with Claire Cutler to win a doubles match. The duo defeated Granite’s Ella Tallon and Ramsey Smith 8-1.
The No. 1 doubles team of Karin Williams and Madison Griffiths won both of their matches. They held on to beat Lone Peak’s Vera Grabow & Cartherine Coltea 8-6 and then had an easier time in an 8-2 victory against Jefferson’s Addy Leary and Clara Genger.
Three Forks is scheduled to return to action April 5 against Chinook and Chester-Joplin-Inverness in Great Falls.
